Days after a 7.0 earthquake devastated Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti, family members battled for a proper burial of their loved ones. Time and again, tragedy followed moments of hope. Despite early frigid temperatures, a mid-day sun warmed the crowd of more than two million who came to celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as America’s 44th president. He took the reins of power in a high-noon ceremony amid economic worries and high expectations. Obama’s inauguration represents a time of renewal and optimism. In his speech, he said the nation must choose “hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord” to overcome the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Excitement about the Inauguration

With Barack Obama’s inauguration as the 44th President of the United States tomorrow, some are expecting high drama. This ceremony has always been seen as a sacred renewal but, with our country in crisis and the election of the first African American president, this may be the most exciting one in memory.
